A Little Girl's Dream

Little Princess Caroline’s eyes shone at the sight of the beautiful ballerinas dancing to Swan Lake. This was her first Ballet she ever went to. The 5 year old looked at her mother and father, eyes as bright as any of the stars.

“Mama, Papa, I want to be a ballerina when I grow up, Sister is going to be queen so I want to be a Ballerina!”

Parlipan huffed, “Princesses can’t be ballerinas, you silly girl!” She snapped.

Caroline recoiled at the harshness her sister talked to her in, almost shrinking.

“Now Parlipan, be nice to your sister.” Their mother scolded, “But your sister does have a point. Princesses must marry into a good blue blood family and bring fortune to the kingdom!”

The father only grunted, “Bah, let the girl dream. It’s no harm for a child to dream of something she won’t be able to have."

"Besides, why would a princess want to be a dancer anyways? That’s the only way for Peasants and the Middle class can obtain higher status!” Parlipan scoffed.

Both their mother and father laughed. It was obvious they agreed with Caroline's  sister.

Caroline shrunk down some more. She still wanted to be a ballerina no matter what, but she decided that talking it over with her family wouldn’t be the best thing to do, since they didn’t seem to like the idea.

Part of her wished her parents would recognize her own wants and desires. It was always her sister that got all the attention. Being older, the most beautiful woman in the land, and perfect in everyway, it meant that everyone forgot the little girl almost practically. Of course other than Drosselmeyer, but her parents didn’t approve of that either since he was a clockmaker. She was a good girl right? She wouldn’t ask for an golden apple, or some object that was impossible to get otherwise. All she would ever want were ballet slippers, and a very kind friend, so she wouldn’t be so lonely anymore.
